Our Story

More Than Music Lessons

In 2006, Therese Wirakesuma, Johannes Sebastian Nugroho, and Antonius Priyanto shared a vision: to help make Lippo Karawaci the first pioneering independent city with its own community choir and orchestra — a place where people could come together through the joy of music.

With this vision, they began discussions with Mr. Gordon, Director of PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk Town Management, as well as the owners, Mr. James T. Riady and Ibu Aileen Hambali. Together, they established the Lippo Karawaci Community Choir and Orchestra, which later became known as the Lippo Village Community Choir and Orchestra (LVCCO). The organization celebrated its beginning with its very first inaugural concert, marking the start of a musical journey that would continue to grow for years to come.

In 2011, LVCCO took on a new identity as Community Music Center (CMC). The new name reflected a broader vision — one that reached beyond a single community and sought to make music education, community, and performance accessible to a wider audience.

Today, Community Music Center (CMC) has grown into a home for many musical endeavors, with locations in Kelapa Gading, Simprug Garden, and Lippo Village (Karawaci). As a non-profit organization under the Yayasan Pendidikan Musik Klasik Indonesia (YPMKI) foundation, CMC continues its mission of bringing people together through music.

From its humble beginnings as a community choir and orchestra, CMC has grown into a vibrant musical community that nurtures musicians, builds meaningful relationships, and shares great music with audiences throughout Jakarta and Tangerang.

Our journey began with a simple belief: music is better when it is shared. And today, that belief continues to guide everything we do — Building Community, Educating Musicians, and Performing Great Music.
